Hello 2023.

Hello 2023,

I'm feeling like I'm finally able to slow down after a hugely transformative 2022. Over a 4 month period I got engaged, emptied the michaels building, moved houses twice and got married. All while running a new business.

Letting go of michaels and the city has taken time and it's been a process. And planning a wedding at the same time made things extra spicy!

I've also had my own first-hand experiences in the overwhelm of staying on top of my own photos!

I received my wedding shots in 3 batches and they’re not named intuitively so I find them hard to search for and find in my Google Drive.

And it was also my first time navigating how to consolidate the photos taken by two people on holidays - our honeymoon photos were taken on both of our phones as well as a camera. I also really wanted to make a photo book over the summer but that didn't happen either.

My word for 2023 is focus. The 3 years since launching PhotoGenie have been experimental and dynamic. With my experience in scanning and archiving, my attention has been on developing the physical photo side of the business. I'm excited to share that as of the end of this month the team will be expanding and this will allow me to focus on and develop other areas of the business.

I've learnt a lot about photo management and business since 2020. I used the lockdowns as opportunities to dive deep into this emerging industry which I had been really keen to explore.

In September last year I released a short webinar for Save Your Photos month that was a follow up of the one I recorded in 2020. In it I provide 3 simple ways to safeguard your digital photos. You can watch it here. I also talk about Google's important policy change which takes effect on June 1.

Soon Google will start deleting data from free accounts that have been inactive for 2 years. This will impact the accounts of those who have passed away or are incapacitated for example. Google has had enough of being the digital wasteland of the planet, and they’re starting to purge unused data. I explain it all in the video.

Hopefully it won’t be so long between posts next time. Below is a photo from my wedding :)
