Who are we?
PhotoGenie was founded in March 2020 by Carly Michael who is the fifth generation family member to manage michaels camera video & digital, the 100-year-old iconic camera store in Melbourne’s CBD. Over almost 18 years she worked in and managed the photo lab of the family business which specialised in digitising, restoring & preserving family photos.
Carly had always been concerned that when providing archiving services her lab was simply transferring the physical mess into a digital mess. In 2017 she discovered that Photo Management was an emerging industry providing a system to organise photos and finally providing a solution for this problem.
When the lab was closed due to Covid, Carly decided it was the right time to focus on photo organising and launched PhotoGenie. She has worked with dozens of clients over the last two years helping them sort out their mess of photos once and for all. She is passionate about making a real difference to people’s lives and ensuring that family legacies are preserved from generation to generation.
